Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago with more than 17,000 islands (6,000 inhabited).
The total size of Indonesia is1.919.440km², of that is 93.000 km² water. With more then 240 million people and 88% of them being muslim, it is also the biggest muslim country.

It proclaimed independence on 17 August 1945, that day is also a national holiday. On 27 December 1949, Indonesia became legally independent from the Netherlands

There are 27 provinces, 2 special regions*and 1 special capital city district** ;

The highest mountain is Puncak Jaya with 5,030 m. Indonesia has many active and dormant volcanoes, today there are 151 active volcanoes. The national resources are petroleum, tin, natural gas, nickel, timber, bauxite, copper, fertile soils, coal, gold, silver. Agra culture products are coffee, tea, cotton, chocolate and rise.

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
